Sámara? Where is that?
Who googles Sámara Costa Rica, quickly realizes that the holiday resort Sámara is located on the Nicoya peninsula. The region belongs to the province of Guanacaste. Sámara is home to almost 5,000 inhabitants. However this number increases strongly in the summer months, because then sandy beaches, nature and relaxation attract pure vacationers from near and far.
Situated 35 km from Nicoya
About 35 km away from Nicoya, the small town at the beach Sámara offers a variety of shops to suit every taste. In addition to the typical tourist shops, which sell souvenirs in the colourful Costa Rican style, there are also bars, a yoga studio, organic shops and many other strolling opportunities.
Street Stalls and the Organic Shop Sámara
A visit at the organic shop is always worthwhile. Because here you can find dark chocolate with pineapple (of course with an extremely high cocoa content), fresh hummus, exotic oils on a completely natural basis and weekly workshops that focus on the support of local supermarkets and inform about a harmonious life with the earth. Besides that, Costa Rica medicinal plants are also offered here. Another eye-catcher are the street stalls where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables. So many bright colours, you’ve got water running straight through your mouth.
The tranquil city is not only a popular holiday destination for tourists from other countries. Certainly many Costa Ricans also spend their holidays here, as the beach in Sámara is considered to be one of the safest in the country.
In the 90’s there was only little international tourism here. However, word has got around that this place is a particularly beautiful place on earth. Meanwhile many families and individual travellers spend their holidays at the Pacific beach. Compared to the other places on the coast, the tourism in Sámara is still manageable.
The mixture makes the difference
The world as a guest in Sámara Costa Rica. At least that’s what you might think. Because not only Ticos, but also Germans, Italians, Poles, Spanish… and visitors of many other countries walk through the streets of the small town. Interestingly, the Americans are more attracted to other places. Why is unclear, because who doesn’t like bright sandy beaches, clear water, palm trees and a lush flora and fauna? Most importantly, there is really something suitable for every visitor.
Whether you enjoy a beer at the beach bar with impressive live music, walk the 5 km long beach towards the sunset, test local specialties in the bars and restaurants, or likewise rave in the calmer waters of the Pacific, everything is possible.
No grain of sand resembles the next
There is also Caribbean flair here in Samara Costa Rica. One only has to drive to the northern beach Carillo. But there is one decisive difference to the Caribbean: here, usually the weather is better.
A little more to the south follow the beaches Buena Vista, where the turtle project is located and Barrigona, that receives one with dreamlike white sand. Moreover, from here, one gets to a nearby waterfall that represents an impressive scenery during the rainy season. If you want to read more about real Costa Rican stuff, check this out.
We wish all Costa Rica fans a wonderful 1st Advent!
In Sámara Costa Rica there are endless possibilities for excursions. Here we have listed the most interesting possibilities
Canopy – Tarzan style. Overcome your fear of heights and dare to swing from tree top to tree top. Or do it like parrots and enjoy nature from a bird’s eye view while you rush through the rainforest on a zip line.
Riding – Like Indiana Jones. Well, maybe not quite like him. In any case without weapons, wild chases and a lost treasure there is, as far as we know, also not. But there are rides to the most beautiful beaches of Sámara Costa Rica and through the rainforest. The perfect opportunity to observe the native animals.
Stand up Paddling – The relaxed version of surfing. With a fabulous backdrop you can train your sense of balance and endurance. But as I said, everything is very relaxed. Because the waves don’t set the pace here. If a turtle crosses the path, just stop and watch.
Flyboarding – Looks damn cool. Ascend out of the water like a superhero and float over the waves. Perform casual tricks and show off in front of the other bathers. The fun factor can hardly be surpassed and all this against a breathtaking backdrop, the sandy beaches of Sámara!
Surfing – Feel like David Hasselhoff. Grab your board, throw yourself into the waves and save …. oh no, rather: enjoy the ride of your life! Of course there are also courses for everyone who has never been on the board before. Just try it out and enjoy the moment.
Boat tours – With a much better end than Titanic. You will hardly find icebergs in the crystal clear water. But there are dolphins and turtles. And if you have a really good eye and are out at the right time of year, even humpback whales.
Turtle project – game, fun, excitement, no chocolate. But cute turtle babies! Because at the turtle project at the beach Buena Vista hatches almost daily offspring. They are then gently brought to the water. Just go there and be enchanted.
Diving – Talk to crabs and be friends with fish? No problem! Compete with Arielle and discover the underwater world of Costa Rica. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will see King Triton, the ruler of the sea people. But you can certainly see dazzling fish, turtles, corals and crabs. A truly magical underwater world!
Bars, Restaurants & Accommodation
No matter if unusual drinks, delicate dishes or fabulous sleeping possibilities. We know what you shouldn’t miss in Sámara.
Hotel Paraíso del Cocodrilo – far away from everything, but still in the middle. Hustle and bustle, noise, traffic and hectic are as far away as perhaps nowhere else in the world. But you are in the middle of an idyllic animal world, which you can watch from the pool or the hammock. Relaxed atmosphere, original hotel design and a lot of nature await you in the Hotel Paraíso del Cocodrilo, as well as cosy rooms, bombastic cocktails and delicious dishes. After a 10 minute walk you find yourself at the beach Buena Vista. The probably chilliest hotel in Costa Rica
